Musa sikkimensis (Red Tiger) is a beautiful and unique banana. Similar in hardiness to the famous Musa Basjoo, Musa sikkimensis (Red Tiger)can over winter in zone 6 if well mulched. I have had a plant over winter here in Kentucky for many years with just a generous amount of mulch over the trunk. Although hardy it often returns form winter a bit slower than others but once it gets moving it will often reach 6 to 9 feet tall in colder climates but can get to over 12 feet in warmer areas. Possibly the most noticeable feature to the plant is the nice large blotches of red streaks on the leaves. These red streaks contrast nicely with other plants in the garden and really brings attention to itself. A must have for hardy tropical growers.

The last four pictures are of the plants just beginning to show the red coloring in the leaves.
