Xanthosomas is a section of plants from the aroid family. Many people commonly refer to them as Elephant ears and they are often confused with Alocasia and Colocasia plants which are all from Asia. Xanthosoma's are found in South America and are usually found growing in wet to damp areas in full sun to shade. Xanthosomas range in many different sizes and leaf shapes. Some grow only 1 to 2 feet tall while their are a fair amount of them that grow to giant proportions. One species new to science may produce one of the largest solid leaves in the world. Xanthosomas can grow very fast and large if given the right environment. Most tend to like it hot and humid with part sun.
