Palms

Palm trees are in the Arecaceae family and are found all over the world in tropical and subtropical areas. Their are many different species and forms most are considered trees forming large trunks with age. very few plants are associated with a tropical nirvana like palm trees. Often seen in some exotic location near the ocean. This idea is what makes it one of the most sought after plants to grow in colder climates. Who would not want a palm tree growing next to their pool? Due to this fascination my father and I have looked for seeds and new hybrids or strains that can handle our cold winters. So far none are fool proof and we play it safe by having them protected in winter. With as simple as a cover or sheltered area all the way up to a make shift greenhouse structures around them. Once grown out few plants get as much attention as a palm.
