Gingers are plants in the Zingiber family. This family is found in the old world tropical regions. Most are native to tropical and subtropical locations but a few species are very hardy. Gingers are known mostly for their uses in products for scents shampoo and other produces and for spices in foods. They are often over looked as a garden plant though they produce some of more interesting and beautiful flowers seen. The foliage can be just as colorful and interesting ranging in many colors as well as patterns and variegation. From ground covers to tall towering plants gingers is a group that needs more attention from growers.
