It’s always good to look back and see how things have changed over the years—how dreams turn into projects, and projects eventually become part of our everyday reality. So much can happen in just one year, both big and small, that it’s easy to forget things weren’t always the way they are today.
For example, we now have eight wonderful greenhouses that feel like they’ve always been part of our lives. But when I first started with Brian, we only had three to handle everything: plants for sale, the collection, and the hybrids. I still remember putting each one of those greenhouses up together. Even when the builds turned chaotic, we managed to have a good time. The Blue Door greenhouse, in fact, was bought used—we took it down with nothing more than two socket wrenches and two ladders.
Looking back, I realize that even as so much changes, a lot stays the same. There are always fans to repair and greenhouses to maintain. Flowers bloom, and faithful plants return to their same spots year after year. That constancy helps us find our rhythm with each season, giving us the balance we need to move forward into the next.
This year has brought its share of changes—some big, some small—but returning to the steady harmony of the nursery always grounds us. We hope your gardens are doing the same for you this year.
