Beating the Heat, One Scoop at a Time

Who else is ready for this heat wave to be over?
This oppressive heat has made it tough to get anything done around the farm or at the nursery. But if there’s one silver lining, it’s that it’s the perfect time to break out the homemade ice cream. The sound of that old-fashioned whirling machine was the soundtrack of my childhood on hot summer evenings. We’d all be gathered outside on my Mammaw’s back porch, eagerly waiting for that amazing strawberry ice cream to finish.

Now that I have my own home, my ice cream maker still gets plenty of use on these sweltering days. It’s a special cool treat after a long, hot day of watering plants.

Thankfully, we’re finally seeing some relief in the forecast—with the return of the 80s and even a few chances of rain here and there. Until then, we’ll keep doing our best to keep the greenhouses as cool and wet as possible.
