Philodendron tuxtlanum (Red Queen)
Philodendron tuxtlanum (Red Queen) is a selected seedling we chose and
named out of around 1 thousand seedlings. The leaves are green and long
just like the regular species. The main difference and attraction is the
under side of the leaf, which is a dark red color. Some of the other
seedlings had pink or slightly red undersides but this clone was much
more dramatic in coloring and was given the name Red queen. We have been
slowly propagating the plant for the last few years and have only
offered around 4 plants in 3 years. So it is not commonly offered. Only a
few will be offered this season. This philo is a climber and should be given something to climb as it matures. The leaves can grow over 1 foot long and 5 inches wide. The leaves are hastate in shape and it makes for a excellent house plant or addition to a tropical garden or greenhouse. |
