Canna tuerckheimii

Canna tuerckheimii

Canna tuerckheimii this species is very unique in the canna family. I have only grown it for a few years now and it has shown to be a great plant. It looks a bit different than most canna varieties with it's very tall stems and large leaves with light ripples or veins through out the foliage. This canna reminds me more of a Heliconia than any other variety of canna I have grown. Growing to 8 feet tall or more and foliage 1 to 2 feet long this plant has been great in my tropical displays. The flowers are a bright orange and the flowers are thin and almost tubular. All the plants offered are from seeds collected out of South America. I believe this species is still fairly new to science only being introduced described in the early 80s.

Plants for sale are in 4 1/2 inch pots and are all similar to the first photo.
