Selenicereus grandiflorus
Selenicereus grandiflorus queen of the night cactus is the
common name for this odd and beautiful plant. It can crawl or climb
given conditions. I grow mine in a more tropical humid atmosphere were
it climbs and grows as an epiphyte. The large stems are dark green and
have small thorns. It is not extremely prickly but can get you if you
grab it just right. The flowers are a light yellow to white and can
reach over 1 foot across usually blooming late evening to night. It is
believed to be pollinated by bats and has a sweet smell to the flowers.
Plants are rooted in 3 inch pots.
